Only a few months of existence and already a big success for Brellum Swiss Watchmaking. The Duobox Chronometer has been officially unveiled in December 2016 with a blue and a silver version and was received by both watch enthusiasts and press with an extraordinary welcome.
The ingredients are simple: a high-performance movement, a vintage design, quality finishes, the whole Swiss Made and made with great passion.
Now, and just before Baselworld, it’s time for the brand based in Porrentruy to present a new version of its Duobox : The Black Edition.
Since approximately 100 years, the wristwatches are, let’s say, the same: mainly, a round or quadratic dial and some hands rotating clockwise and I consider that it is hard to come with something new to bring originality to this. The only thing that you can do, as a watch brand, is to bring some interesting details that will catch the eye of any observer.
This is what Brellum Watches did – they brought something so interesting that caught immediately the attention of all watch lovers. But this is not all: their watches come with a price that caught the attention of any gentleman in search of a special watch.
The Brellum Duobox Chronomètre “Black Edition” is a really special watch: an excellent executed watch with a lovely dial, a COSC certified chronometer, a microbrand’s child with a killer price tag.
An excellent executed watch: a 316L stainless steel case (surgical steel that guarantees robustness and no issue for people with Nickel allergies) with a diameter of 41.80mm and a total thickness of 16.20mm. The satin brushed finishes with beveled and polished lugs and the highly polished bezel with a mounted “box type” sapphire with anti-reflective treatment, together with the slender, classical shape make the case an excellent eye catcher.
The case-back also comes with “box type” sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, which is not often met in this price category (most of the brands use a non-treated sapphire crystal). The case-back is fixed with 6 screws and it is nicely built with a lot of small details: brand and watch name, water resistance (50m/5atm – enough since it is not intended to be a dive watch) and the watch number – the number is very important because there will be produced only 299 watches per year.
The crown and the beautifully shaped chronograph push buttons are also in steel.
A lovely dial: domed curved with a sunshine pattern black, distinct sub-dials for the small seconds and chrono functions, a good contrast date window at 6 o’clock and the lovely Brellum logo at 3 o’clock, together with name and “Chronometer Officially Certified” in red paint.
A very nice touch and a detail that I particularly love is the Pulsometer Chrono outer dial that can be a fun function or a life saving tool. The inner printed dial serves as seconds’ indication for chronograph function and minute’s indication for the time. For the hour indexes Brellum used 3D diamond-cut applied baton indexes with luminescent material that have the same design theme as the hours and minutes hands, also with luminescent material – That’s an interesting detail.
A COSC certified chronometer is a must for those who use this function on regular basis and the BRELLUM BR-750-1 is a Chronometer Officially Certified by the COSC with 25 jewels and 28,800vph or 4Hz heart powered for approximately 46 hours. Based on the Valjoux 7750, a precise and robust chronograph, the BR-750-1 movement features a frost finish with spotting decoration, Côtes de Genève and a rotor that stated with pride “Chronometer Officially Certified”.
I consider the Duobox Chronomètre “Black Edition” a wining hand, an opportunity to have a great looking watch with a special movement inside at an affordable price: 2,212 CHF for the leather strap (total weight of 120g) and 2,262CHF for the 316L stainless steel bracelet (total weight of 170g).
