The Hong Kong based watch company SD-09 is trying to add to the market, using the best materials, craftsmanship and distinctive designs, a new appealing watch – the SD-09™ Spacecraft Timepiece which is inspired by space.
The watch with a weight of 230grams comes with a 316L stainless steel case measuring 42mm in diameter and 14 mm in thickness. The Finland forged steel is additionally PVD coated for an increased case resistance to scratches and chemical factors.
The brushed case has a complex 3-parts construction (actually it’s not really only 3 parts but the whole case is composed of 20 parts and more than 20 screws):
1.The bezel has the top vertically brushed finishing and the chamfered edges have high polished finishes. This one has an anti-reflective coated sapphire crystal and is mounted on the case using hex shaped screws;
2.The vertically brushed body has a crown protection system which ensures the water resistance of 100m and protects the crown from accidental hits or pull-outs and a symmetrically placed weight to balance the watch’s weight and the overall view (without the added piece, the watch tended to be overcrowded on the right side and the presence of it increases the design’s appearance);
3. The case-back also features an AR coated sapphire crystal offering a view to the robust Japanese movement. It is fixed on the case using 6 screws and it is engraved with the company’s logo and information about water resistance, watch’s name and luminescent substance used.
A limited edition of 500 pieces is offered exclusively to the first Kickstarter bakers and will have the “Limited Edition xxx/500” engraved between the lugs on the wearer’s side.
This space-inspired watch has a multi-layered sandwich dial with numerals and indexes coated with the bright Swiss Super-LumiNova™ C3 (light green), offering a spectacular view in the dark and increasing the underwater visibility. The hours’ and minutes’ hands are skeletonized brass with a diamond cut finish and Super-LumiNova™ filled tip. Depending on the model, the hands are lacquered in the color of the dial elements. For the small seconds’ dial is used, instead of a classic seconds’ hand, a high quality aluminum disc (called the « Spacecraft Engine »), which has a design inspired by the Phoenix Lights UFO Sighting. A discrete date window is also placed at 3 o’clock.
One of the most interesting features of the dial is the inner bezel minutes’ indexes with luminescent dots with a colored background between the 30th and the 45th minute.
The movement visible on the back is the robust Japanese Caliber Miyota 8218: a 26mm diameter, 5.67mm height automatic movement with 21 jewels, a 3Hz or 21’600vph beating heart with shock absorber offering 40 hours of power reserve and a precision of -20/+40 seconds/day. The movement is decorated with Geneva waved.
The watches come with a very beautifully worked quick-release hand braided strap, made of genuine Italian calf leather with a generous thickness of 5mm. A 316L stainless steel pin buckle engraved with brand logo and featuring a vertical brushed finish.
This Space, UFO and Sci-Fi inspired watch is available for pre-order on Kickstarter ’till early May, and you can preorder the SD-09™ Spacecraft Timepiece from the starting campaign price of 257USD.
